On Saturday, September 20, there is a need for two people who are strong enough to lift heavy boxes at the Grandview Church Foodbank. The job involves carrying the boxes of food from the storage area to the driveway where they will be picked up by clients.

The Social service department is often in need of persons with a truck or van that can assist in moving donated items to our offices or to the clients in need. This is on going and sometimes on short notice. If this is something you could do please reach out and we can add you to our list. 

We need a bilingual volunteer to assist a client with an in-person appointment on September 18 at 12:15 PM at Monroeville Imaging Center. This would be to translate and assist with completing documents. 

We have a client and her young child that needs to go to the Peruvian Consulate, in New Jersey. She will make an appointment once we have someone who can take her.

Puentes Hacia el Futuro is Casa San José’s Saturday youth program designed for children ages 7 to 11. The program provides academic support, leadership development, cultural enrichment, and social-emotional learning opportunities. Volunteers will assist program coordinators in leading activities, engaging with students, and supporting a positive and safe learning environment.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping participants grow in areas such as education, culture, nutrition, mental health awareness, sports, leadership, and community engagement.

Patience, empathy, and flexibility in addressing the needs of children ages 7–11.

Experience tutoring, mentoring, or working with children (preferred).

Special Events Volunteers support Casa San José’s Youth Department and the organization as a whole by assisting with community events throughout the year. Volunteers serve as ambassadors of our mission, helping to create welcoming, engaging, and impactful experiences for families and youth.

Duties may include event setup and breakdown, registration, assisting with youth and family activities, welcoming guests, distributing resources, and representing Casa San José in a professional and positive manner.

This role is flexible and ideal for individuals looking to give back to the community, gain experience in event coordination, and contribute to Casa San José’s mission on a flexible schedule.

We are seeking a kind and reliable volunteer to help transport a client in a wheelchair to a medical appointment.

Requirements:

– Access to a wheelchair-accessible vehicle or ability to assist with one

– Comfortable providing transportation for a community member

– Date and time will be coordinated directly with you

Help new community members navigate Pittsburgh!

We’re looking for a volunteer to accompany one of our case managers and three clients on a public transportation orientation.

The goal is to help them become familiar with how to use the bus and other local transit options.

Requirements:

– Must be comfortable and familiar with Pittsburgh’s public transportation system

– Spanish is not required (our case manager will interpret if needed)

– Friendly, patient, and willing to walk with the group

Your support will help our clients gain independence and confidence moving around their new city.

Join our Rapid Response network and help us DEFEND OUR COMMUNITY!

Our rapid response network is made up of students, activists and neighbors who respond to and monitor ICE activity in our community.

To join the squad, you must undergo a 2 hour training session, following which you will be sorted into on-call teams. Each team is on call once every 6 weeks, but the time commitment is flexible - we understand you have lives. The only expectation is you are extra attentive when on-call and will mobilize when you’re available.

Additionally, you will be expected to attend team meetings and further trainings on a non-regular basis.
