Opportunities From: Casa San Jose

We are starting a new program for families left in the aftermath of ICE detentions. We are looking for people who can help organize a new house, helping to mentor a family. or to provide transportation. We are also in need of donations. Please reach out for more information. 

Casa San José is seeking volunteers to assist with our adult English classes for our winter and summer 2026 sessions. Classes meet twice a week for 10 weeks, from 7 to 8:30pm via Zoom. The winter session runs February through April and the summer session will run in June and July. 

Volunteers typically teach one evening per week, either solo or paired with another instructor. Prior ESL teaching experience is not required. We provide training, a complete curriculum and ongoing support for instructors. Spanish proficiency is not required, though it is preferred for working in the beginning level classes.

Background check and child protection clearances required before volunteering.

Passion for working with youth and making a positive impact in the community.

Ability to commit to program schedule (Monday-Friday, 3:30PM–6:00 PM) with flexibility.

Previous volunteer or professional experience with youth is a plus.

The Social service department is often in need of persons with a truck or van that can assist in moving donated items to our offices or to the clients in need. This is on going and sometimes on short notice. If this is something you could do please reach out and we can add you to our list.

Puentes Hacia el Futuro is Casa San José’s Saturday youth program designed for children ages 7 to 11. The program provides academic support, leadership development, cultural enrichment, and social-emotional learning opportunities. Volunteers will assist program coordinators in leading activities, engaging with students, and supporting a positive and safe learning environment.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping participants grow in areas such as education, culture, nutrition, mental health awareness, sports, leadership, and community engagement.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with children, staff, and families.

Ability to foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment.

Patience, empathy, and flexibility in addressing the needs of children ages 7–11.

Creativity in engaging youth through activities, games, and hands-on learning.

Teamwork and collaboration with coordinators and fellow volunteers.

Cultural sensitivity, especially when working with Latino youth and immigrant families.

Experience tutoring, mentoring, or working with children (preferred).

Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus but not required.

Interest or knowledge in areas such as arts, education, leadership, health, or sports.

Ability to model positive behavior and serve as a role model for youth.

Organizational skills to assist with program setup, materials, and clean-up.

Commitment to volunteer at least one Saturday per month (consistency preferred).

Completion of background checks and child protection clearances prior to volunteering.

Passion for youth development and community impact.

Availability during Saturday program hours (approx. 9:30 AM – 5PM).

Location: Various community sites across Pittsburgh

Special Events Volunteers support Casa San José’s Youth Department and the organization as a whole by assisting with community events throughout the year. Volunteers serve as ambassadors of our mission, helping to create welcoming, engaging, and impactful experiences for families and youth.

Duties may include event setup and breakdown, registration, assisting with youth and family activities, welcoming guests, distributing resources, and representing Casa San José in a professional and positive manner.

This role is flexible and ideal for individuals looking to give back to the community, gain experience in event coordination, and contribute to Casa San José’s mission on a flexible schedule.

Flexibility to take on different roles during events as needed.
